Magnet Therapy - What Is It?

Magnet therapy, also known as Magnotherapy or Magnetotherapy, is a type of health therapy that is based on the theory that magnetic fields, when applied to certain parts of the body on an ongoing basis, will have healing effect on various symptoms. The therapy is used to treat an ongoing fatigue and in the process of wound healing. Though highly debated, many people swear by the effects of magnet therapy.

In many cases, magnet therapy involves an item, such as a piece of jewelry, with a magnet embedded in it. These items can include bracelets, anklets and other jewelry. Also available are straps for the back, wrists and ankles. Magnets are even sewn into items like blankets or clothing items, shoes and more with the belief that the recurrent power of the magnet on the body has healing effects. Magnets can be utilized in many different ways, although the most common method is in jewelry, and these pieces are easy to find at local pharmacies and discount stores.

Even though most studies indicate no health effects from the therapy, its popularity has continued to grow and magnetic jewelry and items can be found in almost any store. And there have been some recent studies that showed magnets may reduce swelling, helping ankles and easing the effects of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Does magnet therapy actually accomplish anything? That is a question open to wide debate, and perhaps it will be debated for years to come. Some believe that the magnets help them immensely, while others indicate nothing at all changed with the therapy. As with any treatment, it is imperative that the patient consults their physician before starting any regime. Magnet therapy does not seem to have any ill side effects, but it is always better to consult a professional.

The idea of magnotherapy is an interesting concept, drawing on the idea that the magnetic field of the body needs to be affected in order to heal some illnesses or symptoms. The main theory behind the magnet therapy is that the iron in the blood system can be positively pushed or pulled by repeated use of magnets. It is really up to each patient to choose a therapy that is right for them and to make their own decision as to whether the treatment works well for their symptoms.
