Holistic Therapy and Alternative Medicine - What?

Holistic medicine is a type of alternative medicine that applies the belief that every aspect of the spiritual, mental and physical aspects of the self work together to form health and happiness. Holistic medicine is not a treatment like traditional medicine. Instead, it is a treatment that focuses on the total wellness of the body. It works to treat causes of illness instead of trying to stifle the symptoms like medicine does.

Holistic methods of health have a long history, but only became recognized by medical groups in the 1970s. The health treatment has garnered strength and popularity in the past few years to a point that it is no longer considered exotic or strange. It is an accepted method of keeping the body healthy and in good condition.

The holistic method has proven successful in working with aging veterans and has been implemented in many veterans’ hospitals. And there are even nurses who devote their whole training to learning holistic methods of treatment. Holistic treatment has proven successful for women who are suffering from menopause and who are not interested in a medical hormone therapy. A combination of vitamins and minerals can greatly help symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings, and depression.

There are many different methods used in holistic treatment. Some of these methods include acupuncture (the use of tiny needles on certain pressure points to relieve problems with other parts of the body), Vitamin and Mineral Therapy (which uses high doses of the substances in combinations to help with certain health concerns), Yoga and Tai Chi (which are physical methods of reducing stress and refining the body’s overall muscle and bone wellness), Chiropractic Treatment (the treatment of the skeletal and musculoskeletal systems through manual manipulation), Homeopathy (the use of heavily diluted substances made from minerals and plants to treat various health concerns and conditions), and Magnetic Field Therapy.

Holistic medicine stresses the importance of taking care of the whole body as opposed to treating each certain system or part. Although considered an alternative medicine, it is widely accepted in many medical circles and regarded as a respectable type of health care. Though not a medication or a cure-all, Holistic health is a way of living that will prevent illness and keep the whole body healthy and refined.

Magnet Therapy - What Is It?

Magnet therapy, also known as Magnotherapy or Magnetotherapy, is a type of health therapy that is based on the theory that magnetic fields, when applied to certain parts of the body on an ongoing basis, will have healing effect on various symptoms. The therapy is used to treat an ongoing fatigue and in the process of wound healing. Though highly debated, many people swear by the effects of magnet therapy.

In many cases, magnet therapy involves an item, such as a piece of jewelry, with a magnet embedded in it. These items can include bracelets, anklets and other jewelry. Also available are straps for the back, wrists and ankles. Magnets are even sewn into items like blankets or clothing items, shoes and more with the belief that the recurrent power of the magnet on the body has healing effects. Magnets can be utilized in many different ways, although the most common method is in jewelry, and these pieces are easy to find at local pharmacies and discount stores.

Even though most studies indicate no health effects from the therapy, its popularity has continued to grow and magnetic jewelry and items can be found in almost any store. And there have been some recent studies that showed magnets may reduce swelling, helping ankles and easing the effects of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Does magnet therapy actually accomplish anything? That is a question open to wide debate, and perhaps it will be debated for years to come. Some believe that the magnets help them immensely, while others indicate nothing at all changed with the therapy. As with any treatment, it is imperative that the patient consults their physician before starting any regime. Magnet therapy does not seem to have any ill side effects, but it is always better to consult a professional.

The idea of magnotherapy is an interesting concept, drawing on the idea that the magnetic field of the body needs to be affected in order to heal some illnesses or symptoms. The main theory behind the magnet therapy is that the iron in the blood system can be positively pushed or pulled by repeated use of magnets. It is really up to each patient to choose a therapy that is right for them and to make their own decision as to whether the treatment works well for their symptoms.
